Denis Diderot
(1713-1784) French philosopher, essayist and playwriter, who became a key figure of the Enlightenment. He was the principal editor of the Encyclopedie, which contained contributions from many of the main thinkers of the Enlightenment, including Voltaire, Rousseau, Holbach and Montesquieu.
