August 30, 1998 - homeward bound
This was the day, where we should return to Denmark. We got up at 5 A.M. and as usual Georgia and Hugh had prepared breakfast for us. Janet and Claus picked us up at 6 A.M. and drove us to the airport. We were all sad, having to leave Canada so premature. There were still so many things, that we would have wanted to see. Especially in Vancouver and in the neighbourhood. We should have gone to UBC Botanical Garden, Vancouver Museum, seen dr. Sun-Yat Sen's Clasical Chinese garden, seen the Caprilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain etc. Maybe taken a trip in Canada's only steam-operated locomotives, along more than 60 kilometres of spectacularly scenic Howe Sound from North Vancouver to Squamish.
But you've got to be positive and think of all the beautiful things, you have experienced, and of all the wonderful people, that you have met. First of all Janet, who had put so much efforts first in planning then in the job as the perfect guide. Allway taking care of problems, always seeing to, that we had the greatest trip possible. And then to our son Claus, who was a careful driver. (Of course we are satisfied of Claus - we made him ourselves). The Janet's parents and family, who gave us such a warm wellcome. Jane and Terry, who opened their house to us. And my cousin Enis and her husband Jim. And Georgia and Hugh, who made our stay in Vancouver such a pleasant one. It certainly had been a great experience. And I's sure, that Birgit and I will be back in a few years. We would like to go to Hythe in Alberta and see how countrylife is in Canada. After all this is the region, that feeds the rest of Canada.
The plane left according to schedule. On the plane Viggo and I were 'smalltalking' (can you say that?). Viggo wondered, why a nation, that allows kids to carry guns, do not allow people to smoke anywhere.
When Viggo was dosing, I guess, he had this dream, you see to the right.
See you, folks!
